Marketplace Selling Fees Compared (2026)

Every platform on this site in one table: commission, payment processing, per-order charges and effective cost at $30 and $300 — so channel selection is arithmetic, not folklore.

How to read this table

The two “effective” columns are the whole point: not the sticker commission, but total fees as a share of revenue at a $30 sale and a $300 sale — computed with each platform’s fixed charges, processing line and plan fees included. Fixed fees ($0.40, 49¢, $2.95, $0.99) punish small sales and fade at large ones, which is why the rankings shuffle between the two columns: Poshmark’s 20% is regime-constant, eBay’s structure is cheapest-in-class nowhere but competitive everywhere, and the zero-commission platforms win both columns by definition while charging buyers instead. Every cell here has a dedicated calculator page that runs your exact numbers — the table is for choosing where to look, not for pricing.

The three fee regimes of 2026

The market has split into three regimes. Percentage-heavy (Poshmark 20%, Amazon 15-20%, Etsy-with-Offsite up to 25%): expensive per sale, justified by buyer traffic or checkout dominance. Mid-tier (eBay 13.4%, Grailed 12.8%, StockX 12-14%, Whatnot 11%, Etsy-on-platform ~10%): the traditional cost of demand. And the zero-commission tier (Mercari, Vinted at 0%, Depop at 4.3%): fees migrated to buyers, giving sellers 6-20 points of pricing headroom at the cost of smaller audiences and thinner tools. No regime wins universally — a $12 thrift tee nets most on a zero-commission app, a $300 designer jacket nets most on Grailed or eBay’s auction dynamics, and a $30 handmade order lives on Etsy because that is where the buyer is.

Fixed fees are the small seller’s real enemy

At $30, every flat charge is a percentage monster: eBay’s $0.40 is 1.3% by itself, Etsy’s $0.20 listing plus 25¢ processing add 1.5%, PayPal’s 49¢ is 1.6%, and Poshmark’s flat $2.95 regime below $15 makes the entire fee 20%+. The practical playbook: bundle low-price inventory to amortize per-order charges (a 4-item $40 eBay order pays $0.40 once, not four times), price sub-$15 volume into flat-fee or zero-commission channels where structure doesn’t punish smallness, and treat any listing under $10 on a percentage platform as a candidate for consolidation. The calculators make this auditable in seconds — most sellers who run the numbers once restructure half their low-end inventory.

Buyer-side fees: the invisible column

Mercari and Vinted show 0% because the fee moved across the table — buyers pay a protection surcharge at checkout (roughly 3-6% of item price). Sellers keep the full listing price but compete on checkout totals, which caps achievable prices on commodity items where buyers compare absolute totals across apps. The honest comparison for a $40 item: Mercari buyer sees ~$42-43; an eBay buyer sees the item at $40 because eBay taxes the seller instead. For unique inventory this costs you nothing — buyers who want that specific piece pay the total. For fungible inventory, model it: your zero-fee listing can be the most expensive checkout on the market.

A worked channel decision: the $65 sneaker

One pair, cost $30, target $25 net. Grailed: needs $91.10 (12.8% load) — streetwear audience, fair pace. eBay: $94.80 (13.4%) — largest audience, needs no hype. StockX: needs ~$93 at 9% + 3% plus a $12 ship-to-auth leg → ~$95.70 all-in, but the bid is the price (no negotiation window). Depop: $87.50 (4.3%) — younger audience, slower for non-hype pairs. Poshmark: $100 (20%) — effectively disqualified by arithmetic. Five channels, five required prices, a $12.50 spread — on identical inventory. Channel selection is the highest-paid decision in reselling precisely because it repeats on every listing: run the two or three viable calculators, list where the required price matches what comps actually pay, and let the other apps carry copies of the listing for free.

Frequently asked questions

Which platform has the lowest selling fees?

Mercari and Vinted charge sellers 0% commission; Depop is next at 3.3% + 45¢ processing. Buyers pay protection fees there instead.

Is eBay or Poshmark cheaper?

For sales above ~$3, eBay (13.25% + $0.40) beats Poshmark’s 20%. Below the $15 cliff, Poshmark’s flat $2.95 can win — run both on your actual price.

Do any platforms have no seller fees at all?

Mercari and Vinted charge sellers nothing — commission and processing moved to the buyer side as a checkout protection fee.

Why is Etsy sometimes 25%?

Offsite Ads attribution adds 15% on top of the ~10% base stack when the buyer arrived via Etsy’s external advertising — mandatory at 12% for shops over $10,000/year.
